Organic Lawn Fertiliser Australia: How & When to Feed Your Lawn
This guide outlines organic fertiliser application rates for lawns under Australian conditions. It covers turf preparation, new lawn establishment, ongoing lawn maintenance, and specific guidance for hydrophobic soils using Soil Dynamics organic products to improve soil biology, root development, and long-term turf health.
Organic lawn care: preparation & maintenance
TURF PREP (before laying lawn)
Soil preparation and base nutrition
- Incorporate the following into the top 100–200 mm of soil:
- Coastal Cure: 1–3 kg per sqm
- Nutrient Rock Star: 300–500 g per sqm
- Growing Goodness Organic NPK: 300–500 g per sqm before planting
- Apply a further 300 g per sqm 2–3 weeks post-laying
- Top dress and water in with Happy Gut Tonic
Step-by-step establishment feeding
Step 1: At Planting
- Water in well with Happy Gut Tonic
(20–40 ml per 9 L watering can – covers approx. 10 sqm) - Water off any residue on foliage to prevent sunburn
- Happy Gut Tonic stimulates early root development for a stronger, tougher lawn
Step 2: Two weeks after planting
- Apply The Protein Shake (100% pure fish)
- 1st application: 180 ml per 9 L
- 2nd application: 90 ml
- 3rd maintenance: 45–65 ml
- Water off residue
- This drives early growth and establishment
Step 3: Week Three
- Apply Jurassic Juice
- 50–100 ml per 9 L watering can for first few applications
- Reduce to a maintenance rate of 20–40 ml thereafter
- Water off residue
Ongoing Establishment Program
- Alternate Happy Gut Tonic and The Protein Shake weekly as a soil drench or foliar spray
- Products can be mixed if required (may fizz slightly — this is normal)
Monthly Maintenance
- Apply and alternate Jurrasic Juice 20ml and Regenerate Elixir 20-40ml monthly.

- Apply Nutrient Rock Star and Growing Goodness at seasonal change
- Apply Jurassic Juice monthly, alternating with Regenerate Elixir
- Apply Happy Gut Tonic fortnightly
- Apply The Protein Shake fortnightly
Existing Lawns with Hydrophobic soils
Pro Tip:
- Top dress Nutrient Rock Star and Growing goodness at a higher rate of up to 500gm per sqm
- Water in with Jurassic Juice
- Apply Jurassic Juice weekly at 50–100 ml per 9 L for 6 weeks
- Reduce to fortnightly, then monthly as soil improves
- Keep up monthly application at the maintenance rate of 20-40ml ongoing
Additional guidance:
- Apply Regenerate Elixir monthly
- Apply Happy Gut Tonic fortnightly
- Apply The Protein Shake fortnightly
- Summer boost: weekly or fortnighlty if requried adn up the rate to 50-100ml

My poor citrus trees were on their last legs. I added Regenerate elixir to my regime and they've sprouted new growth plus fruit. I thought they were dying. Amazing stuff

My poor garden wasn't doing well. My citrus trees were dying. After the second week using these products my garden and trees look like new. New growth everywhere. I can't say enough about it. The instructions on the download and on the bottles are different so you need to think about what you're using, especially the amounts. Bit confusing
